GLOBAL PUBLIC HEALTH EVENT, 2022

THEME: PUBLIC HEALTH MATTERS.

On the 7th of April, 2022, UNACOH, Kyengera Rorary Club and Kyengera Town Council,  joined the rest of the world to recognize the contribution of public health in disease prevention, promotion of health and wellbeing of the people. This was under the main theme “GLOBAL PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK”, in commemoration of the Annual World Health Day.   This was an arrangement of the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA) of which, UNACOH is an active member.

The week long activities had several activities, UNACOH chose the  theme “ Strengthening Public Health Associations and Communities” This came at an opportune moment when UNACOH had established a working relationship with Kyengera Rotary Club and Kyengera Town Council. The three institutions mobilized the communities in Kyengera, these included the market leaders, schools, religious leaders, Cultural leaders, politicians and Village Health Teams among others. A panel discussion on public health dialogue was held under a subtheme “Public Health Matters: Building the New Future Through Collaborative Health Initiatives.”

The panel discussion comprised of a pupil representative from Buddo Junior School, students from Trinity College Nabbingo, Mugwanya Summit College, St Mark’s College Namagoma, Kings’ College Buddo, and Kyengera Traders Representative.  These gave their experiences about Malaria and Sanitation, and suggested remedial actions to improve the situation. It was a lively interaction of participants present both physically and virtually. The function featured in print and electronically in various media houses.
